This unique Star is in the form a Double
Mobius Strip. Each band has one continuous surface and one edge. This elegant
and beautiful design symbolizes our eternal relationship with our loved
ones and with God.
The Double Mobius Star is a six-pointed star, made of two
intertwined triangles and a six-sided geometric hexagram center. Today the
star has come to be known as the most common, universally recognized spiritual
symbol of the Jewish community. This sign has become widely adopted as the
Jewish star, or poetically, the Hebrew name, "Magen David" (Shield of David).
In tradition, Israelite King David was a military hero, achieving victory,
not on his might, but by the support of the Almighty. The symbol of the six-pointed
star was given to him by God to represent and protect his kingdom. It was clear
to David that God was his shield
It is thought that the six-pointed star receives its form and substance
from the six-sided, solid hexagram center. Its inner core represents the spiritual
dimension surrounded by the six directions; north, south, east, west, up and down.
Thus, the six-points of the Star symbolizes God's rule over the universe
in all directions. This also applies to Shabbat. The seventh day gives balance and
perspective to the other six days of the week.
The Star of David was also a symbol of the Holocaust, during which the Nazis
forced Jews to wear an identifying yellow six-pointed star. After the war, the
Jewish community turned this symbol of humiliation into a symbol of honor. In time,
the star appeared in the center of the flag of the new Jewish
state of Israel and has become associated with national redemption.
This symbol of Judaism though, received it's contemporary status only in the last
two hundred years.
This sacred geometric shape predates Judaism and symbolically has meant,
"as above, so below." The Double Mobius Star represents the
polarity of opposites; fire/water, masculine/feminine, heaven and earth. It is a
symbol of perfect peace and balance of the higher and lower selves. In the ancient
Hindu yogic tradition, the six-pointed star is the symbol associated with the heart
chakra, anahata. The downward positioning triangle merges with the upward positioning
triangle directly at the heart center. The descending triangle (point down) represents
the creative, female, yang or shakti energy; the infusion of the divine into matter, or
purusha in union with prakriti. The ascending triangle (point up) represents the male,
yin or shiva energy; the ascension of spiritualized matter back to the divine; prakriti
in union with purusha. This unites the two to become One. Similarly, it speaks of the
macrocosm/microcosm; what takes place on the earth plane also takes place in the realm
of spirit.
From, 'The Double Mobius: Interdependence', by John Galleher : "The Double Mobius represents our interdependent relationship with the natural world and with the totality of existence...The shape of the interconnected Double Mobius Strip represents the flow of energy through the great network of interdependent relationships that make up our universe".
( from the Introduction)
This star is a supreme symbol of wholeness, the self in balance and harmony
with all the universe or viewed Judaistically as the union of man and G_d.
Numerologically, the number 6 is associated with the Goddess, Venus, and the power
to love. It represents cooperation, interrelationship, marriage, justice and beauty.
In the sacred, esoteric system of theosphy, the Kabbalah, the star is the Tiph-Ereth
(tif-eh'-reth). The "Veil" is the name given to the horizontal line which runs through
the center of the 6th sphere of Tiph-Ereth. The area above it is referred to as the
Soul and the area below it is referred to as the Personality. Tiph-Ereth is the center
of the Tree of Life and associated with beauty and harmony.
